Do You Know What You Want?

I thought I did, but boy was I wrong.

In my fifteen year entrepreneurial journey, I discovered that we don’t always know what we want. Sometimes, we are swayed by what others think we should want to the point where we can’t even get in touch with what we want, with what moves our soul.

And, sometimes, even when we do know what we want, we aren’t sure how to get it. Or, sure how we can achieve it without spending most or all of our time doing things we don’t want to do.

In one of my upcoming Books Business Abundance podcasts, I interviewed Stephanie Scheller Dupre. And in that interview, she talked about how important it is to follow your passion and how she had failed four or five times at different businesses before succeeding because she wasn’t passionate about what she was doing.

But is having passion really enough? It wasn’t for me. I found that even though I was passionate about creating books and helping people grow their businesses, and thrilled at the success my students were having
(some are even millionaires today) I reached a point where I was no longer
passionate about “HOW” I was doing it.

I knew when I first got online, I wanted to create a successful business that
empowered people to get their message out to the world and make
it a better place. I still want that today.

But, how I want to do it has changed a lot since then. It was great until it wasn’t. I reached a point where I was saying to myself,
“Is this it? Is that what I am going to be doing over and over until I die?” And being a creative person, this was not going to work for me.

So, I started asking myself, “What do I REALLY want?” and trying different things. And it was frustrating because I realized I didn’t know what I wanted.
And most of what I tried were dead-ends for one reason or another. It was a painful process.

But, I learned what didn’t make me happy and what didn’t work for me. I also learned, that for me, variety was important. I get really grumpy when I have to do one thing over and over.

I also kept checking in to see if I still wanted to write books and teach others, and the answer has always been, “Yes”.

So, I persisted. And I didn’t just change direction within my niche once. I have changed direction many times. And sometimes, it’s a real struggle
and other times it’s an absolute joy.

But, like an airplane that keeps adjusting with the wind as it
powers toward its destination, I keep moving forward.
And I want to encourage you to do the same.

Question what you want, question how you are
going to get it, and keep going for it!
