Are you taking advantage of Amazon Publishing?

85% of eBooks are sold on there. It is by far the largest eBook publishing platform in the world, so it’s crazy NOT to publish there.

Plus, when you publish your books as eBooks and paperbacks, the eBook promotions available on Amazon (which I’ll explain in a minute) help promote your print books and can make you a #1 bestselling author, which in turn can open doors to more opportunities, help you reach more people, and increase your prices. In addition,

Amazon has a program called Kindle Unlimited, which is the second largest eBook market. It also has Kindle Owner’s Lending Library. These two programs make up the Global Fund, and it just paid out $24.7 million in January of this year. So, it’s an additional source of income for authors.(Amazon used to pay by downloads, but it realized that a lot of books were downloaded, but never read, so now it pays by the number of pages read.)

Amazon also has great promotional programs that help you market and sell books, and these programs aren’t available anywhere else.KDP Select allows you to promote your book(s) for free for up to 5 days in every 90-day period (The only stipulation is that it must be exclusive to Amazon during the 90-day period.)

Or, you can do one Countdown promotion where books are discounted from one hour up to seven days during that same period.I usually start authors off with a free launch that leads into a discounted offer to reach a larger audience (More people will download free books than discounted ones.) But, after the initial launch, I usually do Countdown launches.

But, either way, authors may still take 10% of a book and promote it for free elsewhere to drive traffic to their Amazon listing while it’s in KDP Select.

Plus, Amazon has a program called Matchbook that allows authors to give a discount on the eBook version of a book when buyers order the paperback book. The amount can be $1.99, .99 or free, which help generate a lot of extra profit for authors when they charge for their book and immense good will when they give it away.

Amazon also gives you your own webpage in Author Central, so you can get started without even having a website, which makes it very easy for any author to look professional and get started selling without the added cost and technical skill required to create and run a website.

To be continued…
